February at Alliance Art Gallery

By Pat Kerns

During the month of February, the Alliance Art Gallery in downtown Hannibal, Missouri will be exhibiting the work of art students from Hannibal LaGrange University and Culver Stockton University. The Gallery is pleased to be presenting the extraordinary talent that is being developed by two of the college art programs in the region. The work of these young people provides a sneak peek into the future…a bright future of talent and beauty and meaning. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 8 from 4:00 until 7:00. This event is free and open to the public.

The bright lights and vivid colors of the holidays have been replaced by the gray days of winter. If you find yourself craving color, don’t despair. A visit to the Alliance Art Gallery can supply a healthy dose of blues, greens, yellows, reds and everything in between. Enjoy a feast for the eyes found in the watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, and collages. Wrap yourself in the warmth of a woven shawl or in the vibrance of a piece of jewelry. Select a piece of pottery or wooden bowl to brighten your table. Within the gallery walls colors vibrate in contrast with the grays outside the window. Can’t find what you are looking for? Several of the gallery artists will do commissions such as portraits of people, animals, or buildings.

The Alliance Art Gallery is owned and operated by twenty area artists who offer their original work as well as reproductions of some of those originals. The gallery artists include award winning makers of fine art and fine craft whose work is exhibited both regionally and nationally. The Gallery is open daily from 11:00 until 4:30 with the exception of Tuesdays.
