Linda Lucke, Jeweler
It may seem a leap to go from retired pharmacist to jeweler, but sometimes an artistic talent goes from latency to passion. For Linda Lucke, she saw a lady 18 years ago wearing dichroic glass jewelry. “It was always eye catching and I could not resist it.” So, with her sister, she took a class and the passion quickly became uncorked. “It clicked,” she remembers, and soon she was adding classes in metal working, copper, enamel, silversmithing, and beading. “I think it’s possible I had artistic tendencies all the time” … but no time! Retired, with grown children, nothing today separates her from the sheer fun of creating. Linda especially relishes those “it can’t be done” moments that instructors explain. Dichroic glass can’t be added to dichroic glass. Yes it can, she determinedly finds out, by using enough clear glass. When an instructor insists a particular type of ring cannot be made, after several attempts, the ring is made. “I like to experiment,” she enthuses. Today Linda Lucke explores beading and embroidery in a free form creation of jewelry.
“I am not much of a planner,” she admits. “I like to have fun.” Since she doesn’t watch TV, she creates her own reality. In beauty.
An Open House will be held on Saturday December 12 from 11 - 4:30.
