Stan Hilgenbrinck: June Featured Artist

Stan Hilgenbrinck of Quincy, Illinois, will be the featured artist in June at the Alliance At Gallery in Hannibal, MO.  A 2015 graduate of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo, Hilgenbrinck's oil paintings are his contribution to the conversation he wishes to have with the bizarre and dark side of the art world.

Stan began painting in 2009, while in high school, studying with Hannibal artist Michael Chlebanowski. His initial intention was to explore his interest in filmmaking.  Learning to paint allowed Hilgenbrinck to develop his abilities to create conceptual art.  As his studies progressed, he won the best in show competition at the Quincy Art Center High School Exhibit in 2011.  While attending college, Hilgenbrinck fine tuned his skills and won many awards for his paintings.  Filmmaking continued to be a great influence on his work and Hilgenbrinck devoted his senior show to the development of new science fiction characters creating a cinematic universe through his paintings.

Hilgenbrinck works with oils to achieve the high level of detail he requires to convey his ideas.  His paintings  are based in a psychological foundation that are meant to invite the viewer to look closely at his work to realize the subtle color hidden within the brush strokes.  The intentional employment of strong contrast between his value changes adds to Hilgenbrinck's desire for a bold, dramatic look reminiscent of film designer H.R. Giger.

Hilgenbrinck's considers his work to be realistic but admits much of his work takes on an impressionistic look due to his fascination with the relationship between light, color and shape.  His travels often inspire his paintings and continue to offer him subjects to explore.

An exhibit of Stan's work will open on Saturday, June 13, with a reception beginning at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.and will continue through July 10.  The opening coincides with the Second Saturday Gallery night, a monthly gathering to meet local Gallery members and view their work.  Artwork from photographer Andrea Linderman will be given away in a free drawing at 6:00.
